NFL – NFC players to breakout this season (Part 2)

NFL guarantees a lot of excitement this season and here are the players who will breakout on the big stage in the NFC. Now follows the second part of the presentation.

NFC North

NFC North has remained without a few big players, but that is an ideal opportunity for the new NFL stars.

Chicago Bears are one of the biggest franchises in the league. However, for years they fail to make good results. This season they lost Matt Forte, who was very important in the offense, so Jay Cutler will have to rely on his receivers more. This is a chance for Kevin White to make a big boom. Young wide receiver had missed all last season because of injury. They have huge expectation for him in the Windy City and they believe that White will lead them to the playoffs. That is a huge load for a player who has not stepped on the NFL field yet, but he has the talent to be the one for the Bears.

Detroit Lions must learn to live without Kevin Johnson. Megatron decided to put an end to his NFL career, so the Lions will have to find another leader. Perhaps this is an opportunity for Eric Eborn. Detroit puts a lot of hopes in this tight end, a man who so far has not shown he can play at a high level. Eborn should be especially useful near the end zone, where he is expected to use his height and strength to beat the opponent.

Green Bay Packers are favorites to win this division, and many see them in the Super Bowl this year. For that to happen, the defense will have to play at a very high level. Letroy Guion is 29-year-old nose tackle, who only now has the chance to jump into the first plan. BJ Raji left the team so that they will start in the center of the defensive line. Much will depend on him, as he has to put constant pressure on the opposing offensive line. Letroy will be able to take advantage and become irreplaceable in this legendary franchise.

Minnesota Vikings last season won the NFC North, and this year want to repeat that success. Since the Brett Favre left the Vikings, they are looking for a starting quarterback. After several failures they were able to find a player who is supposed to represent the future of the team. Teddy Bridgewater has demonstrated that they can count on, however, the young quarterback is still in the background. Adrian Peterson is still the first star for the Minnesota Vikings, but that could change this season. Teddy surrounded by the solid offensive line and has some reliable receivers, so he has all the prerequisites to make a step in the right direction.

NFC West

NFC West is the division in which play some of the best defenses in the league, but this season the emphasis is on the offense.

Arizona Cardinals are among the favorites to win the Super Bowl. The solid defense and an offense led by seasoned veterans Palmer and Fitzgerald are the main advantages of this franchise. However, much is expected from David Johnson, a young running back. Johnson demonstrated on several occasions last season his talents, and now is expected to be the starting running back, and the player who will often have the ball in his hands.

Los Angeles Rams are hoping to change of the city will have a positive impact on the fate of the franchise. For years already, Rams have one of the best defenses in the league, but the offense has not been up to the task. For few years now, we are hearing that Tavon Austin is the guy for the Rams and a player that will have the huge role in the offense. Unfortunately, talented wide receiver cannot manage to be constant. Last season, Austin played some good games, but that was not enough. Due to his quality and versatility Austin should get a lot of balls this season, and it is up to him to use that.

San Francisco 49ers are undergoing major changes. The franchise which a few years ago was at the top of the NFC collapsed. Chip Kelly has given the task to put together broken pieces and for that he needs a reliable quarterback. He could find one in Blaine Gabbert, a player who was not so good in the Jacksonville Jaguars. Last year he played some good games, and now Blaine hopes that he has shown enough to beat Colin Kaepernick and take over job of a starting quarterback.

Seattle Seahawks need to think about life after Marshawn Lynch. Seahawks will remain run first team, and that means Thomas Rawls will get the ball almost as often as Lynch did. He is currently on the PUP list, but is expected to quickly return to the team and took the starting job. Much will depend on Thomas Rawls. Offensive line is not good at protecting its quarterback, so Rawls will often get the ball to make Russell Wilson’s job easier.

Changes of technical rules in the NBA league

“Hack-A-Shaq” banned from next season

In the upcoming season will come on the scene changes of technical rules in the NBA league. The most significant change that will occur is related to the so-called “Hack-A-Shaq” strategy, when the team that falls behind intentionally fouls opponent players who performed poorly free throws. The league decided that the said strategy, which is named after the legendary Shaquille O’Neal will not be able to be used, at least not when it matters most.

Namely, according to the new rule, in the last two minutes of each quarter, every foul on a player without the ball will be characterized as a technical foul, which will be sanctioned with one free throw and ball possession for the team whose player was fouled. This decision aims to reduce obstruction of game, but also acceleration, because uncertain finals by rule last too long, and with this kind of strategy, from now on outlawed, some teams have usually tried to stop the opponent’s dominant centers, which mostly perform free throw in poor percentages. Even though this strategy will not completely eliminate, there is a significant step towards the protection of players who have problems from the free throw line.

Following these changes proclaimed and Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner and one of the initiators of this campaign, who said that this decision is not perfect but the league is trying to find the ideal solution for this increasingly common problem.

However, there were those who criticized the introduction of the new rule, like Mark Cuban, Owner of the Dallas Mavericks, and Kobe Bryant, who has sharply criticized the changes, saying that players who are earning millions of dollars must learn to hit free throws.

As of next season will come into force yet another rule concerning flagrant foul. The flagrant foul rules will be used to protect against any dangerous or excessively hard deliberate fouls. In particular, it will presumptively be considered a flagrant foul if a player jumps on an opponent’s back to commit a deliberate foul. Previously, these type of fouls were subject to being called flagrant but were not automatic.

Basketball continues to evolve, as the style of play, and in terms of the rules. From introducing the so-called “Mikan rule”, over the shot clock, to the introduction of the three-point line, basketball is in constant development. Many teams, but players will have to get used to the new basketball rules, which may soon be adopted also by FIBA.

Black-yellow love that’s been lasting more than a century

Borussia Dortmund is not the most trophy-winning club in Germany, and neither it is in Europe, but it is special when compared to others regarding loyalty of their fans. The biggest European clubs have tons of trophies behind themselves which, through history, drew a large number of fans, making it a custom for those football giants to brag about their fans being the most loyal. However, Borussia Dortmund can even prove that.

For many years, Borussia Dortmund has been making a sale of over 50,000 season tickets for Bundesliga matches. In their toughest season in the past seven years, a season full of disappointments, a season in which Jurgen Klopp said goodbye to the club, at the biggest German stadium, Signal Iduna Park (better known under the previous name Westfalenstadion), they made a record rating in Europe – 80.424 spectators per match! The first follow-up, one of the most popular clubs in the world, the Spanish Barcelona gathered an average of 77,632 spectators in the season in which they won three trophies, among which is the most valuable one – the Champions League trophy. The next on the list is Manchester United, which had an average of 75,335 spectators per match in the season of their return to the top of the English football, and after them the next is Real Madrid with 73,081, after whom comes Bayern with 72,882. Only 93 owners of season tickets from the past season will not be prolonging their pack on the new season. But that is not a problem for this club because the list of those waiting for an opportunity to subscribe is very long. If one thinks this is due to the club’s big successes in the past couple of years, it is a first sign that that someone has been following games of this club precisely because of those successes and knows about the club only regarding that period. That is very typical for the new generations of so-called trophy fans. The true aficionados of good football, especially of Borussia Dortmund, know that it is a love that last longer than a century. If we go about ten years back in time, when Borussia Dortmund could not get higher than the sixth place in the standings, we will ask ourselves how it is possible that precisely then, in 2004, record visiting of 83,000 spectators was noted in even six matches at Westafalenstadion. In the season behind us, when black-yellows from Dortmund suffered their 11th defeat in the first 19 rounds, 0-1 against Augsburg in front of 80,667 spectators at the stadium Signal Iduna Park, the club was at the bottom of the table. There were 80,200 spectators at their next match. It is hard to imagine any other club that is at the bottom of the championship standings, with only four victories and 11 defeats in 19 matches, to be supported by 80,000 fans in the stands of their stadium. Besides all that, in the first days after the defeat against Augsburg, even 653 new membership requests came to the club. When Dortmund fought out the final of the Champions League two years ago, already on the next day after their victory against Real Madrid in the semi-finals, 250,000 requests for presence at the final match came to the UEFA headquarters from fans of Borussia, and by the time for the very final the number went up to half a million!

DFB_Pokal_Borsigplatz_4880_lb

This reflects just how Dortmund’s fans ‘ spirit is, a city that entirely lives for its club, which does not only support it on the stadium, because there is not enough room for everyone and not everyone has enough money for tickets. That is why on the day of a match, they all gather at Borsigplatz, where, in organization of the fan club “Total offensive”, they all watch the game on a video beam – adults, young ones, children, women, men, people of different religions and origin – united in the unique black-yellow identity. Because of that, not trophies that came and went in nearer and further past, but the fanatic loyalty of Borussia Dortmund’s fans made this club one of the most popular in the world. The black-yellow love won over fans of other colours. The black-yellow love is an example for fans of some other clubs to put a finger to their forehead and ask themselves who it is they are actually rooting for – the club or the trophies.
